Chana Masala | Chick peas Masala | Chole masala , How to make chana masala , curry recipe

Chana masala is also known as chole masala. It's a popular Punjabi dish. In South India, Chana Masala recipe can be prepared using coconut. The actual chole masala recipe is so simple done easily without using coconut masala. When you have Cooked chick peas/Chana  tin at home, your job is  almost  done. So  plan for your Guests for a nice dinner and make them enjoy with Chana Masala....


1. Soak chana\chickpeas overnight and cook  in cooker with 1 tbsp of salt and water for 5 whistles. If you are using cooked chickpeas tin skip the step 1.

2. In meantime chop garlic, ginger, onion and tomatoes.

3. Heat 1 tbsp of oil in a sauce pan, add fennel seed and saute. Then add ginger and garlic and saute for a minute.

4. After add onion and saute until little mushy.Then add chopped tomatoes and saute until mushy. leave the mixture and allow them to cool.

5. Grind this mixture in a mixture grinder along with 1 tbsp of cooked chana\chick peas and make into a paste.

6. Heat 2 tbsp of oil in pan, add Cinnamon, cardamom and bay leaf  and saute.

7. Add the grounded paste and saute it for 2 to 3 minutes.Then add the powders, chili powder, coriander powder and garam masala powder one by one and saute well until raw smell goes.

8. Then add cooked Chana/chick peas, required salt and enough water to it and boil until it blends with the masala. Adjust the water according to the desired consistency.

9. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with any pulao, poori or chapati.
