Quick Rice Upma | Muzhu Arisi Upma

 

Muzhu Arisi upma is my grandma's recipe..it can be made with available ingredients(Rice and Split MoongDal) at home. The best side dish for this is Cumin Gravy |Jeeraga Kulambu  or any spicy gravy(left over). Its a one pot cooking dish. Hope you and your family will enjoy this... This post is a tribute to my lovable grandma Mrs Chandrakantha...





Method

1. Heat a cooker pan, put it in medium flame, Roast Split Moong dal and Raw rice until nice aroma comes( not brown). Keep this in a bowl and let them cool.
2. In between chop ginger, garlic(optional), green chilli and onion.

3. Heat oil in the same cooker pan add the  ingredients mustard, urad dal, channa dal one bye one.

4. After mustard sputters add ginger,garlic, curry leaves and green chili one by one and sauté for a minute.

5. Add the onion and sauté until translucent. after sautéing add 2 cups of water, coconut, roasted rice and moong dal mixture into it, mix thoroughly and add the required salt.

6. Close the cooker pan lid, keep the flame in medium and make one whistle and switch off.

7. Tastiest Upma is ready, Serve hot with any tangy gravy or with Cumin gravy | Jeeraga Kulambu

Note:

1. Adding coconut will give you good taste.
2. Garlic is purely optional but it  gives nice aroma to Upma.
3. One whistle is enough More whistles will make this upma as pongal.
4. The amount of water is 1:2 i.e for 1 cup of rice: 2 cup of water(moong is 1/4 cup).
5. My grandma omits garlic and onion in this upma and she include some Cumin seeds while tempering and she put more coconut. It's tastes awesome. you can do as No onion No garlic recipe.
