Wheat Pongal | Gothumai Pongal

Broken Wheat pongal is similar as rice pongal. This recipe is a whole fiber meal and also very easy to make. It contains moong dal and wheat so it fulfil breakfast with good nutrition. This recipe is best for the kids (even for 8 month old baby) and also for diabetic persons. Check out this Quick recipe who wants to cut to down the rice in their diet...


 

Method

1. Heat the cooker pan, dry roast the moong dal until nice aroma comes and keep it in a bowl. Then, dry roast broken wheat for a minute when it smells good (not roast too much) and put into the same bowl and let them cool.
3. In the same cooker add moong dal and broken wheat along with 4 cups of water. and cook them for 2 to 3 whistles in medium flame.
4. Temper this pongal with ingredients given in the temper column( pepper, cumin, mustard, ginger, hing, cashew nuts and curry leaves) in Ghee. Mix thoroughly with required salt.
5. Serve hot with any spicy chutney.
Note:
Check for the right whistles for your cooker,  more whistles it gets burned at bottom for mine only 2 whistles required.
Don't roast the moong dal and wheat too much, otherwise it never comes mushy as pongal,otherwise  it looks like upma.
You can fry cashews and temper as we do for rice pongal it will tastes good.
